Design Review: Our design review process will enable you to determine how much energy your home will use as it is currently proposed. We will analyze all the dimensions of the home along with the orientation and the building materials and equipment. From there we will make recommendations for you to consider to improve the efficiency of your home.
Consultation for Green Techniques and Products: Do you have a client who wants a 'green' home, but you aren't sure what shade or brand of green they are looking for? We can help talk with you client about the systems and pieces of a green home to determine what best suits their lifestyle.
Design Charette Facilitation: It is important in the beginning of a project to hold a meeting with the sub-contractors involved with the job to provide adequate education and direction to everyone for a coordinated effort throughout construction.
Mechanical System Load Calculation: Our computerized manual j calculations will determine the size of equipment needed in the home to keep it comfortable year round. It will also determine the exact amount of air that needs to be delivered to keep each room comfortable. For more information on the importance of right-sized heating and cooling equipment visit our Educational Resources page.
On-Site Inspections: We will provide you with guidelines for sucess in your new construction project. Along the way we will visit the site to provide third-party quality assurance for the trades involved with the various systems of the home. We will inspect the framing details to verify that everything is air-sealed properly and ready to insulate. After the insulation has been installed we come out to verify that it has been installed to perform. And finally, when the house is ready for move in, we bring out our technical equipment to measure the air-tightness of the duct system and measure the air-tightness of the whole house. After the final inspection we will provide you with a Home Energy Report to provide to your homeowners which demonstrates your commitment to quality building.
Thermal Imaging: When properly used by qualified individuals, thermal imaging can play a powerful role in visualizing otherwise invisible building problems and conditions. We most commonly perform thermal imaging during existing building evaluations to evaluate insulation behind walls and inaccesible areas and to pin-point air leakage.
Training for Sub-Contractors: The basics of energy efficiency and durability in a new construction project begin with air-sealing, insulating, and sealing ductwork. Many trades that perform these services are not familiar with new techniques and products for these applications. Let Energy Potential, Inc. hold a half hour, or half day training to familiarize your subs with the techniques we will be looking for during our on-site inspections. We also provide links to educational literature on our Educational Resources page.
Energy Audits for Existing Buildings: Before you start on your remodel project, get us involved to perform a home energy evaluation to determine where you can add value to the project at hand by improving the energy efficiency of the home at the same time. Replacing siding, for example is a perfect time to replace the exterior wall insulation; and finishing out a basement can be a great time to seal existing ductwork between floors.
